  • What is Hypnotherapy?

You have probably heard of hypnosis and you may even be picturing a watch on a chain being swung back and forth in front of you. Let's clarify exactly what hypnotherapy is... Hypnotherapy (sometimes called hypnotic suggestion) is a form of therapy that utilizes hypnosis to help individuals achieve certain goals, overcome obstacles, or address various issues. During a hypnotherapy session, a trained therapist induces a state of deep relaxation, often called a trance, in which the individual becomes highly focused and receptive to suggestions.

In this relaxed state, the therapist can communicate directly with the subconscious mind to help the individual make positive changes in their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. These changes may include breaking unhealthy habits, reducing stress or anxiety, managing pain, improving self-confidence, enhancing performance, and addressing psychological issues such as phobias or trauma.

    What You Can Expect...

First and foremost, know that hypnotherapy is safe, effective, and confidential. Kelly Voboril is an empathetic Certified Clinical Hypnotist, and her primary aim is ensuring your comfort while addressing your issues.

Once the initial free consultation call is completed, each of your sessions will take place in the Fernandina Beach office. Your initial session will be 2 hours; following that, sessions will be 1 to 2 hours as necessary to address your specific issue. During the session, Kelly will guide you through a series of calming techniques, inducing deep relaxation. By inducing deep relaxation, an environment where your mind can embark on a transformative journey is created. This tranquil state allows for the reshaping of old, negative beliefs, emotions, and behaviors, empowering you to embrace your fullest potential and overcome the challenges you are facing.

Hypnotic states have been used for healing since humankind has existed, but because hypnosis can be misused for so-called entertainment and has been portrayed in the media as something mysterious and magical, supposedly out of the hypnotic subject’s control, it has been viewed with distrust and scepticism by many health professionals. However, recent advances in neuroscience have enabled us to begin to understand what might be happening when someone enters a hypnotic state, and evidence is building for the use of hypnosis as a useful tool to help patients and health professionals manage a variety of conditions, especially anxiety and pain.

    From Psychology Today (https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/therapy-types/hypnotherapy):

The American Psychological Association and American Medical Association have recognized hypnotherapy as a valid procedure since 1958, and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has recommended it as a treatment for chronic pain since 1995.

Hypnotherapy can have many applications as a part of treatment for anxiety, stress, panic attacks, post-traumatic stress disorder, phobias, substance abuse including tobacco, sexual dysfunction, undesirable compulsive behaviors, mood disorders, and bad habits. It can be used to help improve sleep or to address learning disorders, communication issues, and relationship challenges.

    From the Cleveland Clinic (https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/treatments/22676-hypnosis:)

Hypnosis, also called hypnotherapy, is a state of deep relaxation and focused concentration. It’s a type of mind-body medicine.

A trained and certified hypnotist or hypnotherapist guides you into this deep state of focus and relaxation with verbal cues, repetition and imagery. When you’re under hypnosis, this intense level of concentration and focus allows you to ignore ordinary distractions and be more open to guided suggestions to make changes to improve your health... Hypnotherapy may help treat any number of medical conditions in which psychological factors influence physical symptoms.

Common mental health uses include: stress and anxiety, especially before medical or dental procedures; panic attacks; and post-traumatic stress syndrome (PTSD); phobias; behavior control issues, including giving up smoking, losing weight and enuresis (bedwetting).
